When a vehicle is damaged, evee will begin our damage resolution process, to assess what is considered damage and who is liable. We have designed a Fair Wear and Tear Guide to determine what type of damage is considered acceptable as wear and tear or not.
This article aims to clarify the distinction between what is considered reasonable fair wear and tear and what is unacceptable damage to the vehicle taking into account the age of the vehicle. Damage to vehicles is not uncommon and there is a certain degree of damage to a vehicle that can be considered fair wear and tear as a result of continued usage. Fair wear and tear is treated differently to damage caused by the renter that leaves the vehicle in an unacceptable condition. In addition, there are some minor damages that would be considered as fair wear and tear while others are unacceptable and need immediate repair.
Whether you are hosting or renting, make sure you always keep clear records of the vehicle's condition before and after so we can minimise the disputes about minor damage. Major damage that requires an insurance claim occurs approximately once every 2,000 rental days.
Note: Damage caused intentionally or by negligence is considered a breach of the rental agreement and falls outside of fair wear and tear.
Clarification: Minor damage, such as wheel rash or windscreen chips cannot be avoided and generally fall outside of the fair wear and tear.
Common Areas of Damage:
- Front Bumper
- Bonnet
- Roof
- Rear Boot Lid
- Front doors
- Rear Doors
- Rear Quarter Panels
