As a responsible electric vehicle car rental company, we understand the importance of accommodating customers with service animals. We strive to provide equal access to our services for all individuals, including those with disabilities who use service animals.
We have based our policy on the Australian Commonwealth Disability Discrimination Act 1992 - service animals are trained to perform specific tasks for individuals with disabilities. We encourage all hosts to welcome service animals, such as guide dogs, signal dogs or other animals trained to perform specific tasks that are required to accompany their owners.
However, we also recognise that some of our hosts may have allergies or may be afraid of dogs or other animals. Therefore, we ask that renters with service animals to notify the host in advance of their rental so that appropriate arrangements can be made. We allow renters with service animals to keep the animal with them in the vehicle, provided that the animal is safely secured and under their control at all times. Renters are responsible for any damage caused by their service animal.
Service animals may only be rejected under the following conditions:
- The host has a legitimate allergy or fear of the specific service animal.
- The service animal cannot be safely secured in the vehicle (It is the renter’s responsibility to provide necessary restraint equipment)
- The service animal poses a direct threat to the health and safety of others.
Pets that serve as emotional support animals without specific training to perform tasks that mitigate a disability are not considered service animals under the Australian Commonwealth Disability Discrimination Act 1992. Therefore, hosts are not required to permit emotional support animals, but are welcome to do so at their own discretion.
To check whether a host permits animals inside their vehicle, please check the ‘Pet Friendly’ option within their listing. Renters are responsible for any damages caused by their pets.
